How big of a cake should I order? I don't want to run out, but I don't to have a lot left over.
Remember that not every guest will have a piece of cake. So it is fine to get a cake to serve about 10% fewer people than you expect at your reception. For piece of mind, you can order a kitchen (sheet) cake. They are less expensive per slice since they are not decorated, simply iced in buttercream.
We're on a budget. Can you work with us?
Yes. You can keep your costs down by choosing buttercream instead of fondant. Simpler designs, such as a simple ribbon and flowers, are less time-consuming to create, so they are not as costly for you. Cupcakes are also less expensive.
Can you make every tier a different flavor?
Yes, but you should order more cake than guests. If your guests have many choices, they are likely to want to try a couple of them! I recommend 2 different flavors.
What's the most popular flavor?
Classic Vanilla is surprisingly brilliant! It is dense and buttery with a rich vanilla essence, always made with 100% pure vanilla. This is a crowd pleaser for sure. White Almond sour cream cake is a classic wedding cake flavor as it is all white. It goes well with many buttercream fillings. Red Velvet Chip cake is an extremely popular choice for an alternative flavor.
Do you freeze your cakes ahead of time?
No. Quality is as equally important as the appearance! I bake every cake fresh a few days ahead of your wedding day to ensure the freshest, moistest cake possible. Cupcakes are baked 24 hours before the wedding.
I'm looking for the "WOW" factor when people see our wedding cake. Can you do that?
Absolutely. I love doing bold colors and designs. Fondant is a medium that allows very creative designs. You will find some examples in the gallery. If you can dream it, I can probably make it happen. Let's talk!
I don't want fondant. I heard it tastes gross!
Wait! You haven't had Satin Ice brand fondant. I only use premium, fondant and it is specially shipped from New York. It is the same product used by Carlo's Bakery on the hit TV show Cake Boss. It gives a perfectly smooth surface to your cake. I always use a layer of buttercream under the fondant, so you get the best of both worlds!
Why do people order Groom's cakes?
This is usually a gift from the Bride to her Groom. It is a fun cake, and the theme is all about the Groom's interests because the wedding cake (and the wedding day!) is usually all about what the Bride wants! ;o)
Why do people freeze the top tier? Does it even taste good after a year?
It's called an anniversary tier. It is saved to celebrate your 1st wedding anniversary. I can't guarantee the taste after a year in the freezer, but it's a tradition so you'll probably just have a bite as you reminisce about your wonderful wedding day and your first year as a married couple.
How much do you charge?
It all depends on several factors -- size, flavors and fillings, fondant or buttercream, and amount of details in the design. I can't give you a price until we discuss details. Cakes usually start at $3.50 per serving and range from $250-$600. It just depends. It doesn't cost you anything to get a quote, so please ask! FYI - I am currently only taking orders of $125 or more for custom cakes. Only taking wedding orders March through October.
